Trial starts today for a student at The University of Texas accused of killing another student in the fall of 2002.
Ryan Grady is charged with the murder of Jonathan Flobeck.
Flobeck was beaten to death with a steering wheel lock behind an apartment complex on Riverside Drive.
Investigators say Flobeck and friends were leaving a party when an argument started.
Police think Grady and his roommate came back and confronted Flobeck, ending in a deadly fight.
The defense argues Grady acted in self-defense during the fight and the deadly blow was an accident.
They also point to the fact that Grady and his roommate called 911 to come to the scene.
The trial is expected to last a week. If convicted, Grady be sentenced to life in prison.
