Dozens of tips, but tot's identity remains a mystery By ESTEBAN PARRA • The News Journal • February 23, 2010 Despite dozens of tips, authorities have not located the parents of a young girl found crying inside a locked Newark gas station Sunday afternoon. “Any tips that they have gotten up to this point have not panned out,” Newark police Lt. Brian Henry said today. The girl, believed to be about 2 years old, remains with a foster family, which has two children about her age. State authorities said she is adjusting. Joseph Smack, spokesman for the Division of Family Services, said the agency would be providing a video tape of the child later today. “Just to get some live action clips to help in the search,” he said. The girl was found crying inside the restroom at the Shell service station at 804 S. College Ave. Newark police said the toddler had her hair pulled up on top of her head and was wearing a puffy tan winter coat over a purple shirt with a small flower print on it. She also was wearing a diaper and blue jeans with a pink-and-white design stitched onto the left leg. She had pink, white and purple sneakers with purple laces and white ankle socks. Her ears are pierced, but she was not wearing earrings. The restroom at the gas station has an outside entrance that requires a key to access, police said, but the clerk did not recall anyone who used the restroom with the little girl. The station's video surveillance system was not functioning. http://www.delawareonline.com/articl...ains-a-mystery |

N.J. man charged with kidnapping girl abandoned in Del. Toddler linked with woman whose body was found in N.Y. By ESTEBAN PARRA • The News Journal • February 25, 2010 A 25-year-old Edison, N.J., man has been charged with kidnapping and endangering his 20-month-old daughter, who was abandoned at a Newark gas station Sunday, according to the Middlesex County, N.J., Prosecutor Office. Earlier: Police learn name of girl abandoned in Delaware http://www.delawareonline.com/articl...NEWS01/2250358 Dwayne Jackson was charged today in Middlesex County, N.J., and is being held there on $750,000 bail. Newark police have a warrant for Jackson's arrest, charging him with first-degree reckless endangering for locking the girl in the bathroom of the Shell service station at 804 S. College Ave. The child was identified as Jackson’s daughter after her photograph was published in The News Journal and elsewhere, according to Jim O'Neill, spokesman for Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. The child, who had been living with her mother in North Brunswick, N.J., remains in Delaware with her foster family. Officials did not release the girl’s name. The identity of her mother also was withheld due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, they said. O’Neill’s statement did not say if the mother was the victim of an apparent homicide whose body was found burning Monday in Ramapo, N.Y. Police there linked the girl to the victim but did not offer details. The young woman’s charred corpse was found just before 5:38 a.m. by two newspaper carriers in the parking lot of Manny Weldler Town Park off West Maple Avenue. Ramapo Detective Lt. Brad Weidel said investigators don’t have a positive identification on the woman. When asked about the link to the child found in Delaware, Weidel said information on that would come from the Middlesex County, N.J., prosecutor's office. Ramapo is about 66 miles from New Brunswick, N.J., seat of Middlesex County. Newark, Del., is about 100 miles from New Brunswick. If the child found in Newark is connected to the woman found in Ramapo, the case has similarities to the Rosario DiGirolamo case, where a screaming child was found in the Christiana Hospital parking lot in June 2007. A note identified the boy as "John Vincent." Authorities later learned the boy's actual name was was Michael DiGirolamo — the son of 25-year-old Amy Giordano of Hightstown, N.J. Her dismembered body was found in a pond in Staten Island, N.Y., in March 2008. Rosario DiGirolamo was charged in New Jersey with killing Giordano, his mistress. He is awaiting trial. http://www.delawareonline.com/articl...100225029/1006 |

Dwayne Jackson charged with Patricia Belizaire’s murder and allegedly abandoning their toddler in Del.
Friday, 26 February 2010 16:39 Suspect allegedly set victim's body on fire in Ramapo, N.Y. Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and North Brunswick Police Director Kenneth McCormick Friday announced that an Edison man has been charged with killing a woman, taking her body to Ramapo, N.Y., and setting it on fire. Dwayne Jackson, 25, was charged with murder and hindering his apprehension in the death February 21, 2010, of Patricia Belizaire, 25, of North Brunswick. Bail was set at $2 million after Jackson was charged at about 10:30 p.m. on February 25, 2010, at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center. He has been held there since he was charged earlier in the day with kidnapping and endangering the welfare of his daughter, Hanna Belizaire Jackson, a 20-month-old child who was left at a gas station restroom in Newark, Del. Patricia Belizaire was the child's mother. Jackson previously was held on $750,000 bail. The amount, which was raised by Superior Court Judge Dennis Nieves in New Brunswick, N.J., brings the total bail to $2.75 million. An investigation by the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office and the North Brunswick Police Department preliminarily determined that Jackson killed Ms. Belizaire in North Brunswick and drove the victim to Ramapo, N.Y., where the body was set on fire in a park shortly before 5:22 a.m. on February 22, 2010. The cause of death is believed to be asphyxiation. The woman was dead before her body was set on fire. In Delaware, Jackson has been charged with first degree reckless endangering for leaving the child at a Shell service station on South College Avenue in Newark, Del. on February 21, 2010. The child was identified after her photograph was published by the news media. She remains in the custody of Delaware authorities. Prosecutor Kaplan commended and thanked the North Brunswick police, as well as police in Newark, Del. and Ramapo, N.Y. for their efforts. The investigation into Ms. Belizaire's death is continuing. http://www.newjerseynewsroom.com/sta...toddler-in-del
