President Obama official schedule and guidance, Sept. 11, 12, 2010. Pentagon 9-11 memorial
By Lynn Sweet on September 11, 2010 8:33 AM THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary __________________________________________________ _____________________________________ FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 10, 2010 WEEKEND GUIDANCE AND PRESS SCHEDULE FOR SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, AND SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2010 On Saturday morning, President Obama will observe a moment of silence at 8:46 AM at the White House. This is closed press. The President will then deliver remarks and participate in a wreath laying ceremony and moment of silence at the Pentagon Memorial in Arlington to mark the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The Pentagon event is open to pre-credentialed media, however the deadline to request credentials has passed. Later on Saturday, to mark the National Day of Service and Remembrance, the President will participate in a service project in the Washington, DC area. There will be travel pool coverage. On Sunday, the President has no public events scheduled.
8:00AM In-Town Travel Pool Call Time Schedule for the Week of September 13, 2010 On Monday, the President will meet with his national security team for his regular monthly meeting on Afghanistan and Pakistan. Later, the President will visit Fairfax, Virginia, where he will meet with a local family at their home before hosting a discussion on the economy with families from the area. In the afternoon, the President will honor championship teams and student athletes from across the NCAA with a reception at the White House. The President will welcome student athletes from dozens of schools and various sports to congratulate them on their accomplishments in the classroom as well as on and off the playing field. On Tuesday, the President will deliver his second annual Back-to-School Speech at Julia R. Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School in Philadelphia, PA, a 2010 National Blue Ribbon School. The President's Back-to-School Speech is an opportunity to speak directly to students across the country. Last year, President Obama encouraged students to study hard, stay in school, and take responsibility for their education. On Wednesday, the President and the First Lady will attend the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Gala in Washington, DC. The President will deliver remarks. Later, the President will hold a Cabinet meeting at the White House. On Thursday, the President will travel to Connecticut to attend events for Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and the DNC. On Friday, the President will attend meetings at the White House. On Saturday, the President and the First Lady will attend the Congressional Black Caucus Gala in Washington, DC. Americans came together without pride or prejudice, and the rest of the world stood next to us in solidarity and support. But nine years later, America is a fractured and contentious place. While troops in Afghanistan continue the fight started on 9/11, here at home, there has been heated, politicized debate over a Florida pastor's (now "suspended") Quran-burning event, and over a planned Islamic cultural center two blocks away from Ground Zero, to name just two examples. As the rhetoric grows louder and the debate more acrimonious, we look back on the original spirit of community, humility, and grace that swept America and the world in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. I recently noticed that more and more private videos of the attack on the Twin Towers are now showing up on Utube--showing horrible 911 situations in the buildings. Some I wish I hadn't seen. So sad. |
